Motorists are being reminded to drive to the conditions after a car skidded on ice and rolled in a Dunedin street yesterday morning.

The driver escaped unharmed after he lost control of his vehicle on ice in Leckhampton Court, The Glen, just after 6am yesterday.

Acting Senior Sergeant Chris McLellan said the car crashed through a fence before rolling on its side next to a house.

‘‘Luckily, the male was unharmed as a result of the crash.''

The crash was a reminder for motorists to be careful when driving in winter conditions.

Motorists should watch their speed and braking, and use a low gear when ice was present, he said.

Dunedin police would start a campaign next week, Operation Frosty, aimed at raising awareness of winter driving conditions.
