Police said the incident occurred about 9am on February 26 after an ATM card was inadvertently left in the machine.
Anyone with information is asked to contact Detective Sergeant Neil Lowden, at the Mosgiel police station.
• Police are also looking for information about a graffiti attack on a seven-tonne truck parked in Mount St in the Dunedin suburb of Wakari on Sunday night.
Senior Sergeant Kelvin Lloyd said the truck, which belonged to the Fortune Theatre and had large images of the theatre on its sides, was the subject of an extensive graffiti attack on the driver's side.
He asked anyone with any information, or who saw anything suspicious in the Mount St area on Sunday night or Monday morning, to contact police.
