Dunedin Multi-Ethnic Council president Dr Luxmanan Selvanesan said the awareness-raising week had been cancelled last year because of Covid-19 pandemic restrictions.
The Christchurch mosque attacks had also disrupted the previous event.
In both previous cases, only the opening events at the Araiteuru Marae could be held, but a full programme of activities was happening this year.
Most events had been well attended, and were helping raise community awareness of race relations issues and were celebrating "inclusive diversity", he said yesterday.
"Things are going really well," he said.
The week’s events continue until closing celebrations at Toitu Otago Settlers Museum on Sunday.
