Expecting visitors these holidays? Make sure they know how to get a Covid-19 test if they need one.

That is the appeal from Southern District Health Board medical officer of health Dr Susan Jack as people prepare to welcome visitors from around the country into the district.

“All that residents and visitors to the district need to do if they have any flu or cold symptoms is to call 0800 VIRUS 19 (0800 847 8719).

"This is a call centre operated by WellSouth who will advise on the closest available location for testing,” Dr Jack said.

“Testing is free for anyone with symptoms, no matter where they normally live, and anyone with symptoms is urged to stay home (or at their accommodation) until they feel better or receive their test results.”

Posters and flyers promoting the Southern district’s 0800 VIRUS19 had been distributed to businesses, and the SDHB together with WellSouth want them used widely.

The messages complemented the national Make Summer Unstoppable campaign, reminding all New Zealanders about the actions to take to keep each other safe while also enjoying a summer break, uninterrupted by Covid-19.
