Woohoo - Malaysian hawker food restaurant Madam Woo is set to open in Dunedin in September.

Mayfare Group Ltd co-owner Fleur Caulton, of Queenstown, said she and Michelin star chef Josh Emett, of Auckland, would open a Madam Woo restaurant in Dunedin's lower Stuart St in mid-September.''

We see there is an opportunity for the style of business we have and we are looking forward to it.''

We love Dunedin as a city and have spent a lot of time there and think it's a great place to have a business.''

The pair opened Madam Woo restaurants in Takapuna a fortnight ago and in Queenstown in 2013.

Mrs Caulton said she was ''very happy'' with the Dunedin site.

''It's close to the Octagon ... but yet it's far enough away that it's not in amongst it,'' she said.

The site - in the former Pinkalillys Party premises in the Security Buildings - was on two levels and had about 350sq m of floor space.

The restaurant would seat about 80 people, she said.

The fit-out was similar to the other two Madam Woo restaurants. She would not reveal how much the fit-out cost or how many staff would be employed, because the restaurant was in the recruiting process.

Mrs Caulton said she and Mr Emett would be working at the Dunedin launch.
