A 23-year-old Dunedin man is in custody charged with wounding with intent to cause grievous bodily harm after a stabbing incident in Dunedin yesterday.
He will appear in the Dunedin District Court today.
A 22-year-old man was taken to Dunedin Hospital with a stab wound to his torso following the incident, which occurred about 3.30pm yesterday at an Albany St flat, near the University of Otago library.
The victim was said to be in a stable condition, but exact details were not available, Senior Sergeant Craig Brown, of Dunedin, said.
It was believed the two men were students and flatmates, but it was not yet known what led to the altercation or what sort of weapon was used, he said.
Police received two telephone calls alerting them to the incident, one from a member of the public and a second from the flat itself, he said.
Both men were still at the flat when police arrived.
A team of police photographers and crime-scene officers were at theresidence yesterday afternoon.
Neighbours spoken to by the Otago Daily Times said they knew nothing about the incident.
The names of those involved had also not yet been released.
Snr Sgt Brown said police were still attempting to piece together what had happened at the flat, with several witnesses to be spoken to.
