Kit McCready (64) has been working on model planes since he was a teenager.

''When I was 19, I got one out of the cupboard, and I haven't stopped since.''

He was partly inspired by his father, he said, who was ''always keen'', but had said he would work on the planes once he retired.

''He never did,'' Mr McCready said.

Mr McCready, on the other hand, has made hundreds of model airplanes over the years, and displayed 524 of them at Bayfield High School on Saturday.

He enjoyed the history associated with the planes, and ''sitting down, relaxing, and building something''.

''I don't get out much,'' he joked.
