More meetings with candidates

The season of candidates' meetings for the local government election is in full swing, with Opoho, Port Chalmers, Waikouaiti and Waitati all set to host meetings in the next week.

The Opoho Presbyterian Church's annual meeting will this year be run at 7pm tomorrow and Monday, to deal with the expanded central ward.

The central ward came into being after a Local Government Commission electoral review decided to merge smaller city wards into one, and the organisers have planned two meetings to allow enough time for the 39 candidates running for the 11 seats to have their say.

On Tuesday, a candidates' meeting for Waikouaiti Coast-Chalmers ward council candidates and Waikouaiti Coast community board candidates will be held at the East Otago Events Centre in Waikouaiti at 7pm.

On Wednesday, the Port Chalmers Pioneer hall will host a meeting for Waikouaiti Coast-Chalmers council candidates and Chalmers community board candidates at 7.30pm.

On Thursday, a candidates' meeting for Waikouaiti Coast-Chalmers ward council candidates and Waikouaiti Coast community board candidates will be held at the Waitati Hall at 7.30pm.
