A leaky roof is set to be replaced at the Mosgiel Memorial Gym and will cost the Dunedin City Council $100,000.

Council parks and recreation project manager David Natta said the roof of the council-owned gym at Memorial Park in Gordon Rd needs to be replaced.

South Dunedin business Impact Roofing & Plumbing was replacing the roof and it would cost the council $100,000.

``I think it's quite good value for money, especially for a roof this size,'' Mr Natta said.

The work would begin in early to mid January and was expected to be finished by the end of February.

The activities in the gym, which include badminton, basketball and handball would not be interrupted by the work, Mr Natta said.

The roof had ``a history of leaking'' and had gone past the point where ``patch repairs'' would suffice, Mr Natta said.
