No injuries after car ends up in harbour

No-one was hurt when a station wagon apparently left a car park at the Macandrew Bay Boating Club and was submerged in the Otago Harbour this evening.

Fire and Emergency New Zealand firefighters from the St Kilda and Lookout Point fire stations went to the scene after being alerted to a report of a sinking car at 6.07pm, but no action was required, St Kilda Station Officer Stuart Slade said.

No traffic control work had been required after the vehicle had ended up in the water, he said.

It is understood the driver was a young man.

A police spokeswoman said the driver had been unhurt, and no further action had been required by police.

The registered owner had arranged for the vehicle to be retrieved from the harbour tomorrow, the spokeswoman said.
