The future of a prominent central Mosgiel property remains undecided, its owner says.

Buildings on the Gordon Rd site of the former Amana Christian School have been demolished after they were bought by Oamaru man Nathan Bayne earlier this year.

The former church was used as the school from 2000 until 2017, when the school moved to another site up the road.

Before that, the building was the Mosgiel Baptist Church, which celebrated its centennial in 1983.

When contacted, Mr Bayne said there were no confirmed plans for the property.

He had no comment on the historical significance of the building, but said it had been "derelict and full of borer".

A Dunedin City Council spokesman said no resource consent was required for the demolition as the buildings were not on the list of significant buildings and the site was not in a heritage precinct.

The owner of the property where the debris was being dumped said he had spoken to Otago Regional Council staff and they were happy with the disposal.
