Police have no evidence to suggest two suspicious car fires in the past three days are linked to the burglary of a South Dunedin TAB on Saturday.

A car fire in Dukes Rd, Mosgiel, about 3am yesterday was in an abandoned vehicle, a police media spokeswoman said in an email.

She said police had "no evidence'' the fire was linked to another suspicious car fire at Tahuna Park three hours after the TAB in Hillside Rd was robbed, about 8pm on Saturday.

The offender sought in relation to the robbery was understood to have worn a skeleton mask and brandished a sawn-off shotgun.

No-one had been caught in relation to it but ``investigations are continuing'', the spokeswoman said.

TAB media and corporate communications manager Kate Gourdie said they were supporting the two staff members caught up in the robbery.

"We are relieved that no-one was was hurt and we are supporting our staff members at the moment,'' she said.

She referred other questions to police.

Police had no information linking the TAB hold-up with the armed robbery of a Mobil service station on the same street on June 13, but were following "strong lines of inquiry'' in the Mobil incident.

Fire Service Southern communications shift manager Andrew Norris said Mosgiel firefighters arrived to find a station wagon ablaze.

"The fire was visible up on the hill,'' Mr Norris said.

"When the crew got up there, they discovered a car on fire.''
