Fire crews attended two suspicious car fires overnight in Otago and Southland within an hour of each other.
A Fire and Emergency New Zealand spokesman said the Outram Volunteer Fire Brigade were called about 11.30pm to a car engulfed in flames in Waipori Falls Rd near Berwick.
''They were unable to identify its make or model and police have been notified.''
An hour later, the Mataura volunteer fire crew was called to another car ''well-involved'' in flames in State Highway 96 between Mataura and Hedgehope just before 12.30am today, the spokesman said.
Police were again notified and the fire was being treated as suspicious.
