A group of South Dunedin residents are fighting for their New Zealand Post and Kiwibank branch.

Earlier this month, Kiwibank said it was consulting staff on the future of four existing sites in the city, including the King Edward St branch in South Dunedin, which is shared with NZ Post.

South Dunedin Business Association chairman Craig Waterhouse launched an online petition yesterday to lobby for the retention of NZ Post and Kiwibank services in King Edward St.

The petition was the result of a Tuesday meeting organised by Brother Graeme Donaldson, at which a group of about 20 South Dunedin residents voiced their opposition to potential closure, citing the number of elderly or disabled people, and those without cars, who relied on the popular post shop and bank.

Mr Waterhouse said the online petition was available at the parliament.nz website.

Physical copies were available at the South Dunedin Pop-up Hub, 199 Hillside Road, and would also be distributed to local businesses.

Good luck. Once NZ Post plan something it's almost impossible to get them to change their mind.
It's all about profit these days, customers come second - somehow.
