The old sexton's building at East Taieri Cemetery could be transformed into an information kiosk for visitors.

The public was recently asked to share their ideas on how a $28,000 fund for cemetery improvements should be spent.

Dunedin City Council botanic garden and cemeteries team leader Alan Matchett said the "strongest" response was the need for an information station including a map, a list of those buried there and the history of the cemetery.

At the Mosgiel Taieri Community Board's recent meeting, he provided a concept plan showing how the former sexton's building, which was being used temporarily by a local club, could be transformed.

Mr Matchett believed it was a good opportunity to use the building for something directly related to the cemetery.

More "concrete" plans would be developed, including cost-ings, which would go back to the board soon.

Board chairman Bill Feather said the concept plans were "ideal" and would be displayed on the Mosgiel community noticeboard to garner further public feedback.

"It's an excellent idea.

"It recycles a building that has no use," he said.
