Mr Richardson said the centre, which the university budgeted $1.02 million to build, served as an entry point for people visiting the university. It had been ''pretty encouraged'' with the number who had visited since it opened, Mr Richardson said.
A total of 3672 people had been through the centre, made up of 2185 tourists, 1226 students, 157 staff and 104 people from the Dunedin area. The centre served as a starting point for tours of the university, and a place for visitors, staff and students to get memorabilia.
