Dozens of Dunedin motorists were nabbed for speeding past schools as part of a week-long operation, which has been dubbed a resounding success.
Sixty-seven motorists received infringement notices last week for exceeding the speed limit near schools, Acting Sergeant Chris MacAulay, from police strategic traffic unit in Dunedin, said.
No child was killed or injured during that time and police were able to raise awareness of the issue, he said.
Drivers needed to slow down and pay attention, particularly around the start and end of each school day, as children could often be unpredictable.
Motorists should reduce speed to 40kmh around schools as "speeding is not worth the life of one child".
