Praise for staff

Dunedin businessman Richard Thomson, who features in today's Summer Times discussing the impact of the Christchurch earthquakes on his Acquisitions stores, had more praise for his staff after the shops took another pounding on December 23.

He said staff response from the four gift shops had been "fantastic" following the December 23 jolts with everyone pitching in at the Riccarton Mall store to get it open by about 10am the following day.

They then moved to Northlands and managed to get that open by 11.30am.

The Palms store was opened again on Boxing Day.

The Eastgate store was cleaned up, but the mall was closed for repairs and did not open until December 28.

He estimated the loss of trade for the four gift shops as a result of the jolts was about $100,000 and they lost a further $10,000 in stock.
