Police yesterday said they expected to lay charges today against two Black Power gang members following the stabbing of a rival gang leader at the Otago Corrections Facility on Saturday.
The victim, believed to be the president of the Dunedin Mongrel Mob, was stabbed in the chest.
He is understood to be still in custody at the Milburn facility.
Detective Sergeant Kate Bartlett, of Balclutha, yesterday said she expected charges would be laid against the two men today, but it was unclear when and where a court appearance would be held.
The nature and number of the charges had not been confirmed and police had not arranged to visit the prison to formally lay the charges.
The attack followed a series of gang confrontations in Dunedin last week, including one outside the Dunedin District Court.
