Lawrence Area School pupil John Winkle (16) learns how to drive an excavator using a simulator at the Dunedin Secondary Schools Careers Expo in the Dunedin Town Hall on Thursday.

He was one of about 2000 senior secondary school pupils from Dunedin, North Otago and South Otago who visited the annual event, organised by careers advisers from around the region.

This year's expo consisted of more than 40 stands, showcasing a variety of career pathways, including tertiary institutions, Industry Trades Organisations (ITOs), tourism and hospitality training providers, NZ police, defence, and Dunedin employers.

The event aimed to give year 11 and 12 pupils opportunities to explore career pathways and talk one-on-one with exhibitors about available possibilities.
