Yvonne Durham may be 79, but her experiences in the ways of the world haven't warmed her to having her photo taken.

Nonetheless, when the call came for the oldest surviving former pupil of Forbury School to step up for a photograph, she obliged.

"I don't like having my photograph taken. But I would do anything for this school."

Mrs Durham (nee Muir), of Kaitangata, started at Forbury in 1937, and was the oldest of more than 200 past and present Forbury School pupils who gathered yesterday for an official farewell.

Forbury School will be closed and merged with Macandrew Intermediate at the end of this term, leaving many pupils scattering to Bathgate Park School and others in the city.

Mrs Durham said it was a very sad time.

"The school has created a lot of great people over the years. I'm very sad about its closure."
