Halfway Bush School is planning the redevelopment of its main block, which will include classroom upgrades, the reconfiguration of teaching and administration spaces, and roofing repairs.
Ministry of Education infrastructure service head Kim Shannon said it was a school-managed project and was being carried out as part of the school’s 10-year property plan.
At present, the main block consists of six classrooms, a library, a learning support suite, and an administration area.
The decile 3 school was established in 1955 and has about 65 pupils and a staffing allocation of four teachers.
Ms Shannon said it was too early in the process to be definitive about timeframes for construction because they were influenced by a number of factors.
‘‘These include the successful appointment of a contractor, the detailed design process being completed, and decisions on minimising disruption to school activity.
‘‘However, we anticipate work will get under way before the end of the year.’’
She said information about the cost of the development could not be released because it would prejudice or disadvantage the school’s ability to carry out its commercial negotiations.
Design work was also ongoing as part of the tender process and the ministry was not able to share designs at this stage, she said.
