School opens appeal for family

An appeal has been launched by Brockville School to help the family of a pupil whose family home was destroyed by fire.

Principal Craig Hickford said members of the school community had asked how they could help the family of Shanae Wallace, whose son David attends the school.

In response, the school launched the appeal on its Facebook page yesterday.

"We can open up the school and create a depot for people to drop stuff to,'' Mr Hickford said last night.

The children had lost their Christmas presents, so donations of toys from businesses would be welcome, but the family had lost everything, he said.

"They walked out of the house with the clothes on their back.''

Room 3 would be open for drop-offs from 9am to noon each day this week.

The school could also take donations of money for the family.

If necessary, donations could be collected from those unable to drop them off, Mr Hickford said.

"Despite having insurance, we know this will take a while to kick in and it would be great to get this family back to normality as soon as possible,'' the appeal on Facebook says.
