The source of ignition for a flaming couch in the staffroom at the New Zealand School of Tourism in Princes St last week remains unknown, but police say they are treating the fire as suspicious.
Four people were treated for smoke inhalation following the fire on the building’s third floor shortly after noon.
An uninjured man had been rescued from the roof and brought down in a cherry picker.
The man, who lives in a flat in the building, said he was told by firefighters to make his way to the roof where he was lowered to safety uninjured.
The officer in charge of the police investigation into the fire, on the third floor of Dunedin House in Moray Pl last Monday, said it was being treated as suspicious.
No arrests have been made.
New Zealand School of Tourism Dunedin Campus manager Graham Weatherly said yesterday the school was up and running again after it was closed for a period last week to allow for assessment and following smoke damage.
