Decision day is looming for schools involved in the Ministry of Education's South Dunedin schools review.
A final report on the ministry's recommendations for dealing with the 620 surplus pupil places at Calton Hill, Caversham, College Street, Forbury and Macandrew Intermediate Schools arrived on Mrs Tolley's desk earlier this week.
A spokesman for Mrs Tolley said it would take a couple of days for the minister to read the report, and it was possible she could make an announcement on the future of the schools next week.
Her main concern was to make a decision as soon as possible, he said.
Last month, Mrs Tolley announced it was likely Macandrew Intermediate and Forbury Schools would merge as a years 1-8 primary school on the Macandrew site.
She also announced it was likely Caversham, College Street and Calton Hill Schools would also merge as a years 1-8 school on the Caversham site, with a campus on the Calton Hill site.
Mrs Tolley said the review had become necessary because the roll declines in the urban area could lead to reduced funding, reduced staffing and fewer educational options for pupils.
