Southern Motorway crash disrupts traffic

A five-year-old East Taieri boy was taken to Dunedin hospital by ambulance today following an accident in the south-bound lane of the Southern Motorway near Burnside.

Senior Sergeant Craig Brown said the 36-year-old male driver of a car towing a trailer lost control and collided with the Burnside overbridge about 1.30pm.

The car and trailer became separated, he said.

The five-year-old boy sustained minor injuries from his seatbelt and was taken to Dunedin Hospital as a precaution.

The accident blocked the south-bound lane, and traffic was diverted at Lookout Point, through Concord to Burnside for about an hour.
