Reports of a gas leak closed part of King Edward St in South Dunedin this afternoon.
Emergency services flooded the street about 2pm after reports of gas-like smell and people feeling unwell, Dunedin City fire station senior station officer Jason Hill said.
The smell turned out to be odorant from an unused gas line under the street, which was likely to have leaked out because of the rain but did not present a significant danger, Mr Hill said.
The street was reopened about 3pm.
At least one person was treated by staff from St John ambulance.
