Prepare to be entertained as three big events hit the Taieri this weekend. The Taieri Times reporters ask organisers what’s on offer at the Brighton Veteran Car Rally, Otago Taieri A&P Show and Brighton Gala Day.

The ribbons are ready and showgrounds are prepared for Otago's largest A&P show this weekend.

The Taieri A&P showgrounds in Mosgiel will be home to plenty of entertainment, attractions, food stalls and animals for the Otago Taieri A&P Society's 158th show on Saturday.

This year's show president, Wayne Smaill, has been on the show committee for more than 20 years and this is his second time as president.

He said he was ''really looking forward to the day''.

''It's been great to see the show grow over the years with many people who are committed to making it happen.''

Mr Smaill said cattle trophies would be staying in the cabinet this year, as the show had opted not to have cattle entries, as a precaution against Mycoplasma bovis.

Show secretary Cate Edgeler is busy getting the final touches ready for the show and said it was a great day out for the community to come together and enjoy a day out in the country.

Some of this year's highlights include the Wonky Donkey show for children, talented singers Bevan Gardiner and Georgie Daniell, a big rig truck show, and the Otago Axemen (woodcutting) competition, free rider display from Talia Allison who rides her horse with no saddle or bridle and pet corner for all animal lovers to enjoy.

There will be traditional livestock and equestrian events plenty of craft market stalls and trade displays.

Mr Smaill encouraged anyone to come along for a cheap and entertaining day out.

Entry is just $25 family, $10 adult, $5 child 5-17 and under 5s are free.
