SGC project manager Gordon Marr was among the first to try the equipment at the newly upgraded Aramoana Domain playground yesterday.

After working on the project for three months, interrupted by snow and wintery weather, it was "quite nice to have a slide", Mr Marr said.

Set to open on Monday, the $165,000 upgrade is part of the Dunedin City Council’s Play Spaces Plan.

It includes a tree house and fort with slide, a half basketball court, a log scramble and boardwalk, as well as new paths, soft-fall and landscaping.

Some of the equipment was replaced for safety reasons, while other features are entirely new.
