Otago Rose Society president Linda Hellyer and long-term life member Bob Grant (90) team up to cut a cake to mark the 70th anniversary of the society yesterday afternoon.

About 40 of the society's 65 rosegrowers from across Otago gathered for a high tea in St Peter's Anglican Church Hall, on Hillside Rd.

The Otago Rose Society was officially formed in 1949, and meets on the first Wednesday of each month.

Society members gather to share knowledge about gardening and to learn about different varieties, as well as listen to guest speakers.
