Early voting: What you need to know

With the Electoral Commission expecting as many as half of votes to be cast before election day we provide a guide of where, when and how you can get in early.

Where can I cast an advance vote?

There are 485 advance voting places, up from 295 in 2014. Opening hours vary between voting places to suit local needs. Here are links to advance voting locations in Otago electorates.

When can I cast my advance vote?
Advance voting kicked off yesterday (Monday September 11) and runs right up until election day on Saturday 23, September.

What about EasyVote packs?
EasyVote packs started arriving in voters’ letter boxes last week, with 3.16 million to be delivered over the next week. The personalised EasyVote cards makes voting quicker, but you can vote without one.

What if I am at hospital or in a rest home?
The Electoral Commission has teams visiting hospitals, rest homes and remand centres to collect votes. It also has a dictation voting service for blind and low-vision voters.
