A new deal between Air New Zealand and the Department of Conservation is set to net $3 million for the country's network of 'great walks'.
Air New Zealand chief executive Rob Fyfe and Prime Minister John Key unveiled the new environmental partnership this afternoon.
Mr Fyfe said his airline would give $1 million annually for the next three years to improve and market designated 'great walks' such as the Milford, Kepler and Lake Waikaremoana tracks.
The money would go toward new conservation projects, travel and marketing support and translocating endangered species, he said.
Prime Minister John Key said the partnership would help more New Zealanders and tourists experience the country's conservation estate.
"Good on you [Air New Zealand] for taking that environmental leadership. I think it's good for you and the country.''
