Alleged sex offender collapses in dock

A high-profile Far North business identity collapsed in the dock this morning during a bail application relating to multiple sex charges.

In dramatic scenes Daniel Luke Taylor, 37, collapsed in the Kaitaia District Court dock and was taken down into the cells for medical attention.

The former Kaitaia Business Association vice president had faced 17 sex charges, mostly against juvenile boys. However police laid five fresh charges against him today.

The bail application hearing had been underway for about an hour when Taylor collapsed. The hearing is expected to continue after he receives medical treatment.

In a separate case, former Pamapuria School deputy principal James Parker, 37, is due to appear later today on dozens of charges of sexually abusing boys.

He originally pleaded guilty to 49 charges and was due to be sentenced today. But police say that is unlikely to go ahead because he is now appearing on 23 new sexual abuse charges.
