Two people have been rescued after a boat sank at Patea, on the Taranaki coast.
An ambulance communications centre spokesman said the two were the sole occupants of the boat, which had overturned at the rivermouth.
Both had nearly drowned, with one in a serious condition and the other in a moderate condition.
They were being treated at the scene and would likely be transferred to hospital.
