Cyclist killed in Pakuranga

A cyclist was killed after he was struck by a car turning into a driveway on a South Auckland road last night.

Police said the 36-year-old man was struck on Pakuranga Rd, near Gossamer Drive, at about 7.15pm.

A car appeared to have crossed two lanes of traffic to turn into a driveway, pulling over in front of the cyclist as he travelled down the hill, Senior Sergeant Andrew Judson said.

The cyclist died at the scene. Police would not name him until next of kin had been told of the accident.

The road's eastbound lane was closed for several hours while the serious crash unit examined the scene.
