Kim Dotcom has told a court he was punched and kicked to the ground by members of the police special tactics group during the raid on his mansion.

Footage of the raid is to be shown during a three-day hearing at the High Court at Auckland into the finding that invalid search warrants were used.

The Crown, which has said it will appeal against the finding, asked the court to suppress the footage to protect the identities of the special tactics group members and their methods.

Members of the group will be giving evidence during the hearing, which began this morning.

The internet tycoon and three associates were arrested after raids on two Auckland addresses in January, Dotcom's Coatesville mansion and a home in Orakei.

The raids were carried out after the US asked for assistance under an international agreement.

Assets were seized and the men charged with criminal copyright violation through Dotcom's Megaupload website.

Efforts to extradite them to the US have become mired in court challenges.

Asked about the impact of the raid, Dotcom told the court: "Our beautiful home was turned into a haunted house."
