A young man has died after his car hit a power pole in the Hawke's Bay overnight.
The crash occurred on Te Mata Mangateretere Road in Havelock North near the intersection of Te Mata Road at around 4.20am.
On arrival emergency services found the male was deceased, police said.
He was believed to have been in his late teens.
The occupants of a house nearby called emergency services after they heard the car smash, police said.
At this time police believed speed was a factor but were unsure if alcohol was involved or not.
Serious Crash investigators are currently at the scene.
