A 35-year-old former ambulance driver found guilty of indecently assaulting patients in the back of an ambulance in Auckland in 1999 and 2000 has been jailed.
A jury in Auckland District Court last month found the man guilty of six counts of indecent assault, four of which were on a 16-year-old schoolgirl who had been injured in a car crash.
He was acquitted of sexual violation and four other indecent assault charges. Today the man was jailed for two-and-a-half years when he appeared for sentence at Manukau District Court.
The New Zealand Herald website reported the judge initially refused to extend an existing suppression of his name and current occupation, but the man's lawyer, Judith Ablett Kerr QC, immediately lodged an appeal and an interim suppression was granted.
