Former National MP, minister Roger McClay dies

Former National MP Roger McClay has died, Stuff reported last night.

His son, Todd, a current National Party MP, posted on social media yesterday that his father, Roger Neville McClay QSO, died late on Friday night.

Roger McClay was a former MP for the Taupō and Waikaremoana electorates from 1981-1996, and was a Minister for Youth Affairs, Pacific Island Affairs and Associate Minister of Education and Social Welfare. He also served as Commissioner for Children.

He was awarded a Queen’s Service Order for his public service and work with children.

He had cancer for five years and died peacefully at home, Todd McClay said.
