Hamilton crash victim named

A woman who was hit by a courier van in Hamilton yesterday has been identified by police.

The woman was 53-year-old Hamilton woman Margaret Mary Pouw.

District Road Policing Manager Inspector Freda Grace said the crash was still under investigation and the cause was yet to be confirmed.

A Courier Post driver involved in the accident said he was travelling along Morrinsville Rd in Hamilton yesterday morning when his van and the cyclist collided at the intersection of Morrinsville Rd and Matangi Rd.

Ms Grace said initial indications suggested Ms Pouw had been travelling north on Morrinsville Rd and gone to turn right into Matangi Rd, directly into the path of the oncoming Courier van.

She said that at this stage, speed and alcohol on the part of the van driver, who was shaken but unhurt in the crash, did not to appear to have been factors in the accident.

She said the crash investigation was continuing.
