Kiwi dies playing squash in London

A New Zealand man has died during a game of squash in London.

Duncan Brian Smith, 45, died suddenly on May 2 playing the racket sport at Southbank Club, Stuff reported.

The gym posted a message on its Facebook page stating Mr Smith was a "longtime squash member and friend".

The club held a championship final in Mr Smith's honour and observed a two-minute silence on the court.

"It is with great sadness our long standing squash member Duncan Smith tragically passed away at the club on Saturday afternoon, our thoughts and prayers are with his family and friends at this tragic time."

A New Zealand Herald funeral notice states he died suddenly and was a much loved son, brother, uncle and friend.

A service will be held in Tauranga on May 26 at Elliotts Funeral Services.
