A disqualified driver who killed two passengers and injured two others after crashing his car while speeding away from police in Auckland has admitted two manslaughter charges.
Aaron Tulafono, 21, admitted the manslaughter of Jaycherree Makakea and Joseph Tawhai when he appeared in Auckland District Court today.
He also admitted two charges of dangerous driving causing injury in connection with two other passengers in the vehicle, along with charges of driving while disqualified, failing to ascertain injury and failing to stop for police.
Tulafono, who had four passengers, had been stopped by police when he sped away.
He reached speeds of up to 130kmh on suburban roads, causing police to abandon the chase. He subsequently lost control of his car, which crashed and flipped.
Ms Makakea and Ms Tawhai died at the scene. Two others were taken to hospital.
Tulafono ran from the scene but subsequently handed himself into police.
He was remanded in custody for sentencing at the High Court in Auckland on November 30.
