A man has been charged with the murder of a six-month-old baby in Foxton Beach, in the North Island's Horowhenua District.

Emergency services were called to a house on Seabury Ave on June 29 after a baby was found with critical injuries.

The baby was airlifted to Auckland's Starship Hospital, but died on July 5.

Detective Inspector Craig Sheridan said a 25-year-old man had today been arrested in Tauranga in relation to the death.

"Police have undertaken a thorough and diligent investigation, and we are pleased to put someone before the courts to be held to account for this tragic death," he said.

"Police will continue to support the baby's family through this incredibly distressing time."

The man will appear in Tauranga District Court on Wednesday.
