Man killed at Auckland rubbish tip named

Police have released the name of the man who was crushed to death at an Auckland rubbish tip last week.

Michael Kelly (51), of Glenfield, died at the EnviroWaste refuse transfer station off Constellation Dr in Mairangi Bay on Friday afternoon.

Police are investigating the circumstances of Mr Kelly's death on behalf of the coroner.

A WorkSafe NZ investigation is also under way.

The man died when he was moving a waste bin at a bin storage yard adjacent to the transfer station.

He is thought to have been crushed by the bin.
