Man serious after stabbing in Wellington

A man suffered serious wounds after being stabbed several times in a central Wellington apartment block yesterday.

The 45-year-old man was found with wounds to his upper body in the carpark of the Pukehinau Flats at the bottom of Brooklyn Road, just after 4pm, Detective Senior Sergeant John van den Heuvel said.

He was taken to Wellington Hospital in a serious but stable condition.

It appeared the stabbing took place at a flat inside the apartment block and the offender fled when the victim raised the alarm, Mr van den Heuvel said.

Another 45-year-old man was found a short while later in nearby in Rolleston Street.

He had suffered a recent minor injury and police believed he might be linked to the Pukehinau Flats incident.

The man was being interviewed by Wellington police, Mr van den Heuvel said.

The scene was guarded overnight and a full forensic scene examination would take place today.

Police asked anyone who saw the incident or had any information about it, to contact them.
