Men in court on assault, robbery charges

Four men, each facing 11 charges relating to a crime spree in central Wellington on Thursday and Friday nights, appeared in Wellington District Court today.

Trevor John Feiam, 25, a cleaner, Daniel Thomas Tripae, 20, unemployed, Reihana Leef, 18, unemployed, and Shannon Lee Lee, 22, unemployed, were all remanded without plea in custody to reappear next Monday.

The men are facing four charges of aggravated robbery, two of kidnapping, three of demanding to steal and two of assault with intent to commit robbery.

Police began searching for the alleged offenders after five violent attacks were reported between midnight and 5am on Thursday.

Nine people were attacked, four suffering injuries after being punched and kicked. One man was forcibly taken away in a vehicle by two of the attackers and forced to withdraw money from a nearby ATM while the remaining two held his friend at Waitangi Park.

Between 8pm and 11.30pm on Friday night a further three robberies were reported in the Wellington CBD.

Police arrested the four accused early Saturday.
