One dead, three injured in Auckland crash

One person is dead and three are in Auckland Hospital after a three-car pileup on Auckland's central motorway junction last night.

The crash happened on the southbound lanes of the motorway near the Khyber Pass on-ramp about 8.50pm, Inspector Matt Rogers of northern police communications said.

An ambulance spokeswoman this morning said two others were taken to Auckland Hospital with serious injuries, and a third was taken to hospital with moderate injuries.

Considerable delays were caused to southbound motorists as the motorway was reduced to one lane. All lanes of the motorway reopened before 1am this morning.
