Two people have been rescued from the bottom of a cliff in Auckland's Castor Bay.

One of those has been taken to hospital in a serious condition, while the second person had no injuries.

The pair were found on the rocks at the bottom of the cliff face after police and emergency services were notified at around 5am on Thursday.

Inquiries into what happened are ongoing.
