Safety checks are being carried out in Christchurch after a 30-year-old man had a personal encounter of a painful kind with a flying fox.
Fire crews had to dismantle the flying fox seat to free the man about 9.30am on Tuesday in Christchurch's Bishopdale Park, the Star, Canterbury, reported.
It appeared a malfunction caused the mechanism to move on the impact of the man hitting the end of the flying fox line - trapping his nether regions.
Firefighters said the man was "stoic" despite being in quite a lot of pain.
The city council was checking all flying foxes in city parks to ensure there was no repeat.
The man was treated by St John Ambulance staff, but did not need to go to hospital.
City council transport and greenspace manager Alan Beuzenberg said all flying foxes had had a bolt added to prevent another such incident.
