Christchurch police had a quiet night with 10 arrests, but none was earthquake related.
Superintendent Russell Gibson told Radio New Zealand he was pleased publicity about a crackdown on people breaking central city cordons seemed to have worked.
"We have however had three arrests that were related to family violence, which is a disturbing trend but I think is understandable."
There was one arrest for breach of court bail and the rest were for burglary.
A police media spokeswoman told NZPA the burglaries were not considered looting because properties that were targeted had residents inside.
